Basically, mixing is the first step before mastering which involves adjusting and blending of individual tracks together through such processes as EQ, Compression and Reverb to form a stereo audio file after mix-down. The stereo file is then mastered by adjusting of levels, panning, and time-based audio effects (chorus, reverb, delay), to ensure that the various songs are clearly polished and form a cohesive whole on an album.
